Browser Extension

The Chrome (MV3) browser extension for SemanticFed. Manage connectors, data sources, semantic models, entities, and federated queries directly from your browser.

Features

• Popup — quick KPIs (models, data sources, queries), recent models, and recent queries, plus a service-health dot.
• Side panel (Ctrl+Shift+F) — a tabbed dashboard for Models, Entities, Sources, Connectors, Queries, and Policies.
• Options — configure gateway endpoints, OAuth2 client id, and theme.
• Auth — Burdenoff SSO via the OAuth2 device-code flow.

Prerequisites

• Bun 1.3.14+
• Chrome 116+

Install

bun install

Build

The extension defaults to production endpoints. Use BURDENOFF_ENV to select another environment at build time:

# Production build (default) — no localhost references in the bundle
bun run build

# Alpha build
BURDENOFF_ENV=alpha bun run build

# Local development build
BURDENOFF_ENV=local bun run build:dev

# Watch mode for development
BURDENOFF_ENV=local bun run dev

Load dist/ as an unpacked extension at chrome://extensions (Developer mode).

Environment variables

Usage

1. Build and load the extension in Chrome.
2. Click the SemanticFed toolbar icon to open the popup.
3. Sign in with Burdenoff SSO. A device-code verification tab opens; approve it to complete login.
4. Select a workspace.
5. Use the popup for a quick overview or press Ctrl+Shift+F to open the side panel and browse models, entities, sources, connectors, queries, and policies.

Releasing

Tag pushes build the extension and attach a zip to a GitHub Release. Uploading to the Chrome Web Store is human-gated — it only runs on a manual workflow_dispatch.
