Cloud Deployment

SemanticFed is offered as a managed, multi-tenant cloud service at launch. You do not deploy or operate SemanticFed yourself — you sign in at app.semanticfed.com, pick a workspace, and start federating. This page explains what the managed service covers and what your data sources need.

The managed service

Everything below is operated for you:

  • No infrastructure to run — no servers, databases, or agents to install, patch, or scale on your side
  • Multi-tenant with workspace isolation — every connector, source, model, query, and policy is scoped to your workspace
  • Encrypted in transit and at rest — including the credential references you register, which live in encrypted, environment-isolated secret storage and are never returned by the API
  • Metadata only — SemanticFed stores your models, queries, policies, and run history; your data stays in your own systems
  • High availability — health-checked, horizontally scaled, and updated with rolling releases
  • Reviewed releases — every change is validated in an isolated pre-production environment and promoted to production only after explicit approval

Connecting your data sources

Because SemanticFed queries data in place, your sources stay where they are — in your own cloud, data center, or SaaS accounts. You provide:

  • An endpoint the SemanticFed service can reach for each source
  • A credential reference (secretRef) — you register a pointer, never an inline secret; the secret value is held in encrypted secret storage and is never returned by the API
  • Network access (private connectivity options are part of enterprise deployment planning)

Data-residency-sensitive sources can stay inside their jurisdiction; the engine pushes work to the source and access policy controls exactly what may cross a boundary.

Environment selection

The managed service runs in production by default. The alpha environment is used for pre-production validation.

BURDENOFF_ENVWorkspace gatewayGlobal gateway
prod (default)https://graphqlworkspaces.burdenoff.com/workspaces/graphqlhttps://graphql.burdenoff.com/global/graphql
alphahttps://alphagraphqlworkspaces.burdenoff.com/workspaces/graphqlhttps://alphagraphql.burdenoff.com/global/graphql

All clients and SDKs default to production. Switch environments via BURDENOFF_ENV or explicit endpoint configuration. See Environment Selection.

Self-host (roadmap)

A private-cloud / self-host deployment for regulated industries is on the roadmap, so an organization can run SemanticFed entirely inside its own boundary.
